AI-Assisted Filmmaking
Down with the King is a six-minute narrative short I directed while studying at SVA. The project became an experiment in using generative AI as part of a filmmaking workflow without giving up the things I care about most: character, continuity, rhythm and storytelling.
The Film
The project began as a narrative filmmaking exercise rather than a technology demonstration. The challenge was to use emerging tools in service of a coherent short film, keeping the focus on the story while working within the strengths and limitations of generated imagery.
AI-Assisted Workflow
I used a combination of generative tools and traditional post-production to build the film. Maintaining visual and narrative consistency across generated material became one of the central production challenges, requiring iteration, selection and hands-on compositing rather than treating generation as a one-click process.
Direction & Post-Production
My role combined directing with image development and post-production. I worked through generated footage, refined continuity between shots and used After Effects as part of the process of shaping the material into a consistent visual and narrative sequence.
Learning Through Making
The film was created in an AI Filmmaking course led by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Anthony Giacchino. The process gave me a practical way to test how generative tools can fit into a larger production pipeline rather than exist as a separate novelty.
